The Discovery Center is a hands-on area of the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture. A component of the Living Traditions Education Center, the Discovery Center acknowledges that visitors are active partners in the process of learning, and provides opportunities for hands-on exploration, unstructured creative investigation, and play.
The primary aim of the Discovery Center is to enhance the experiences of museum visitors, especially young visitors, by providing an enjoyable atmosphere in which play and experimentation is encouraged; where the themes in Native American Art & Culture can be explored by visitors with a variety of backgrounds, interests, and learning styles; and where the products, processes, and techniques of Native American artistic traditions are presented in an accessible way.
The Discovery Center is an integral part of the Living Traditions Education Center. As such, it shares a common mission: fostering exchange between Native and non-Native communities and peoples and promoting the appreciation of traditional and contemporary Native art. Themes presented in the Discovery Center encompass many topics, providing insights into Native ways and promoting the sharing of Native traditions with Native and non-Native visitors to the museum.
The Discovery Center is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture and is free with regular museum admission. Call 476-1250 for more information.
